Breeding Assistant/Technician

Location: Kimberly, Idaho, USA

Summary:

The position will be responsible for the following breeding activities of the Curly Top breeding program and of the non-commercial seed productions at the Kimberly, Idaho station. This includes, but is not limited to: organization, supervision and execution of marker analysis; staging for planting of seed production plots; organization, execution and supervision of the CT handcross program; and involvement in all seed production activities utilizing stecks and seedlings with emphasis on the seedling productions in the Kimberly greenhouse. This position will support the Kimberly station group in all aspects of data management and marker purity. This is an integral position of the Betaseed/KWS sugarbeet breeding programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the breeding groups in Kimberly and KWS to complete the following activities.
    • Seed Production planning and execution using sugar beet stecks and seedlings.
    • Greenhouse organization and execution of a CT handcross program.
    • Organization of molecular marker analysis, data interpretation and database maintenance for execution of the breeding plans for all CT breeding activities conducted at the Kimberly station.
    • Data input and maintenance of databases for seed production activities and marker data.
  • Training and managing seasonal and full-time employees for these breeding activities.
  • Monitor and supervise seedling productions for the Kimberly breeding group in cooperation with other breeding staff.
  • Other duties that are needed by the business.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in Agronomy/Plant science.
  • Work related experience in plant breeding and greenhouse productions.
  • Ability to manage database information in MS software and company databases.
  • Ability to pass background check.
  • Good, preferred bi-lingual, communication skills.
