Monsanto is seeking highly a motivated individual to serve as a Quality Improvement Specialist for our Oxnard, CA location.
Key Business Accountabilities:
- Quality Systems Development - Alignment of business processes, quality program (QMS), and information systems.
- Leads process owners toward Harmonized and Standardized business processes, QMS, and information systems (i.e. SAP).
- Authors new procedures and IT requirements to enhance business processes and information systems. Facilitates user feedback and proactively manages improvements to the system.
- Identify and resolve systems issues. Balances business, financial, and operations constraints based on strategic goals. Validate requirements with global process owners, key users, and IT to ensure that the design satisfies requirements, and ensure alignment across the global QMS and Mfg functions (harmonization).
- Complete user design and testing sessions via stakeholder meetings. Lead testing and training on equipment and information systems for business process or function. Perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews; modify new processes and systems, and other post-implementation support.
- Communicate change, enhancements, and modifications – verbally and through supporting documentation – to management and users at the implementation period.
- Quality Management Systems – Ensures all processes and procedures are properly documented, posted as part of our QMS system, and teams referencing these documents are trained on how to use at least annually.
- Process mapping - Ensures all processes and procedures are properly documented and posted as part of our QMS system. Establishes process maps for the purpose of defining best practices across our plant operations sites related to quality. Helps define gaps in our processes and leads quality improvement initiatives related to quality and / or productivity.
- Process Quality – Works with process owners to define quality measures that support statistical process control. Proactively analyzes data related to operational processes, corrective actions and other sources to determine trends and to develop improvement initiatives (Before/After).
- Process Improvement – Takes the lead to work cross-functionally to determine root cause and to establish improvement projects or initiatives. Leads MST and quality improvement projects in cooperation with manufacturing functions to drive quality improvements around Operation’s processes.
- Change Management – Works with stakeholders to develop, validate and execute changes (i.e. technology or procedural). In conjunction with Operations, assess how each new technology (treatment code) or equipment (resource) will impact quality and develop guidelines on how to measure the quality impact.
- Global Alignment of Quality Standards
- Harmonization and Standardization – Promotes consistency of processes and procedures across sites. This includes equipment, standardized units, calibration, and quality assessments by Operations (utilizing PA, MOT, and TSW tests).
- Drying and Moisturization – Maintains related Product Specifications. Leads initiatives related to driving improvements in processes related to quality.
- Seed Treatment – Provide technical support related to seed treatments. Works to develop and improve seed treatment protocols and validate the correct rate of seed treatments are applied. Interfaces cross-functionally to leverage support from within Monsanto to proactively improve seed treatment processes and process control.
- Receiving Quality Assessment – works with Operations at beginning of processing to efficiently address general or physical quality concerns.
- Blending – Provides quality requirements for blending related to batch consolidation.
- Usability & Quality Improvement
- Quality Improvement Program focused on seed lot usability. Support Operations and Inventory Management with quality test data.
- Complaint and QMS – Analyzes root cause derived from Complaints and QMS CAPACI’s to establish quality improvement projects or initiatives.
- OPO Scorecard and Trending – Works with Operations and the Monsanto business to define criteria and promotes the use of quality data to improve processes. Analyzes historical quality data and root cause trends to develop improvement initiatives with process owners and stakeholders. The stakeholders may include Breeding, Foundation Seed, Stockseed and Operations personnel. Provides Operations with information related to final usability of seed lots. Works with regional Operation leads on changes to the existing product specifications.
- Area Analysis – regional quality representative in area analysis meetings. Supports improvement initiatives defined in regional area analysis meetings related to improving quality.
- Six Sigma / LEAN / Continuous Improvement - leads and champions six sigma, LEAN, and general projects supporting operations to improve quality.
- Compliance – Promotes ES&H, FCPA, BIO-ETS, Business Conduct and human rights policies. Meets expectations related to ISO 9001-2001 certification, Six Sigma and LEAN activities. Ensures that QMS documentation and actions represent these core Monsanto values.
- Training and Promotion
- Leads training and promotes field quality improvement initiatives throughout Research, Manufacturing and Commercial organizations.
- Prepares presentations and provides training and updates at key stakeholder meetings.
- Cross-functionally trains new team members to apply quality knowledge in decisions making.
Core Business/Functional Skills and Education:
- B.S. degree with 8 years experience with a combination of quality, research, or production experience. A MS preferred with 5 years experience.
- Experience working through a quality management systems (i.e. ISO or GSPP like accreditation) or in quality assurance/control programs. Experience in the development of information systems.
- Quality Improvement - Work experience in a quality, research, or continuous improvement program. Must be able to develop process maps, author procedures, facilitate stakeholder approval meetings, and conduct required trainings.
- Program/Project Management - Author and execute project plans. Lead cross functional teams to address process failures, bridge knowledge or information gaps, conduct business analyses, or design experiments. Manage relationships and establish networks to support the overall business objectives.
- Data/Information Systems Analysis - Ability to export and prepare data for use in periodic scorecards, trending, and root cause analysis.
- Ability to represent business on a technical level and guide Monsanto IT towards innovative and efficient solutions.
- Certification in Quality, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma preferred.
- PgMP or PMP type accreditation preferred. ISO Auditor or ISO Technician certification preferred.
