Senior Research Associate, Sunflower

Location: Woodland, California, USA

Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, is currently seeking a Senior Research Associate in Woodland, California.

The Senior Research Associate will be responsible for conducting statistical and genetic analysis for sunflowers.

  • The Senior Research Associate will exercise technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies.
  • This individual will also train breeders on new molecular breeding tools and methods, manage resource utilization for molecular data, and ensure efficient daily operation of laboratories and/or field locations.
  • May organize, mentor and/or supervise work of others.
  • Conduct statistical and genetic analysis of sunflower genetic and phenotypic data.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategies for identifying marker trait associations.
  • Manage field and laboratory phenotyping and genotyping experiments for marker trait association.
  • Work with scientists/breeders to develop strategies for identifying genetic factors responsible for traits important to the sunflower breeding programs, mine and share genetic information across the breeding organization.
  • Oversee demand and management of resources.
  • Maintain or improve efficient daily work place operations.
  • Supervise and is accountable for assigned projects and coordinates experiments with other locations.
  • May organize and supervise work of other employees.
  • May operate equipment and ensure equipment operates properly.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree (Agriculture) in Agronomy / Genetics and Plant Breeding or related disciplines.
  • Emphasis in the areas of genetics and molecular breeding including quantitative and population genetics with a minimum of 4-6 years of applied research experience required; or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience.
  • Strong management, analysis and interpretation of scientific data sets for marker trait and whole genome associations, and QTL mapping required.
  • Expertise in SAS, R or other statistical analysis interface required.
  • Ability to write scripts in PERL, PYTHON or other programming language preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Computer knowledge, operations of Windows and MS office.
