Wheat Breeding Research Scientist, Heat Stress Tolerance
Location: Roseworthy, South Australia Australian Grain Technologies (AGT) is Australia’s largest wheat breeding company with a team of experienced plant breeders who aim to deliver wheat and triticale varieties with superior quality and agronomic performance to Australian farmers.
AGT with support from SAGIT wishes to appoint a research scientist to lead a three year project investigating the physiological and genetic basis of heat stress tolerance in wheat. The research position will be based at AGTs’ Roseworthy breeding node and integrated into the current wheat breeding team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage experiments to screen bread wheat germplasm for heat stress tolerance and examine its importance to adaptation in South Australia
- Dissect the genetic control of heat stress tolerance
- Develop molecular markers and other selection tools for heat stress tolerance
- Work closely with other staff to manage all aspects of the project’s operations within the AGT Roseworthy breeding node
The preferred candidate will be tertiary qualified in agricultural science, science or related discipline and will have an understanding of plant physiology, genetics and cropping practices.
