Field Trial Manager, Agriculture Trait Development

Job description:
The primary responsibility of this role is to plan and coordinate field testing and elite event selection of BCS traits in corn and soybean, and to participate in teams to develop and implement innovative, scientifically sound and cost effective field testing methods and elite event selection strategies that will result in timely market introduction of new Bayer CropScience (BCS) traits.
The incumbent will:
- Coordinate testing of BCS corn and soybean research traits in the U.S., Canada and Latin America;
- Develop, coordinate and implement elite event selection program for soybean and corn to ensure comprehensive evaluation of event performance, and appropriate timelines for advancement of events to late development stage;
- Conduct field and greenhouse trials and bioassays to generate high quality data on expression of BCS traits in corn and soybean;
- Effectively communicate study findings internally and externally;
- Work as part of a team to develop sound protocols and innovative testing methods, develop strategy for evaluating efficacy and establishing proof of concept, interpret results and observations gathered from field and greenhouse trials, and identify opportunities for technical innovation to continuously improve testing program;
- Develop collaborative relationships with external scientists, including the public sector and third party contracts, to maximize efficiency of field trial program and facilitate exchange of information;
- Work as part of a team to identify opportunities for technical innovation to continuously improve testing program;
- Accountable for regulatory and stewardship compliance in confined field trials;
- Travel domestically and internationally, approximately 25%.
Your Qualifications
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
- Ph.D., M.S. or B. S. degree in plant breeding, agronomy or related field plus minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience, preferably in at least one of the target crops: Corn or Soybean;
- In depth knowledge of and demonstrated practical skills in field trial methods and data analysis;
- Ability to troubleshoot and modify experimental design to ensure regulatory compliance and highest quality data;
- Expertise in one of the following program areas; physiological traits, weed control and herbicide tolerance, insect tolerance, nematode tolerance;
- Good organizational skills with ability to work in a team environment;
- Effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Mobility and flexibility to successfully manage multiple trials within the region and in Latin America;
- Good management skills in an international multi-cultural environment;
- Good understanding of regulatory environment and requirements;
- Demonstrated leadership abilities;
- Computer skills, MS Office, email capabilities and data base management
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agronomic / breeding experience with corn or soybean crops.
