Senior Scientist

The Trait Knowledge group is a technology center within BPS that plans and assists with the execution of experiments and analyzes resulting data to discover unique genes for the BASF Plant Science trait projects. Trait Knowledge scientists work closely with the local Research Project Managers, across business units and across technology centers to ensure that experiments are carried out in a timely manner and yield high quality results.
The successful candidate will draw from novel proprietary genotypic, phenotypic and whole genome sequence data to dissect complex traits for the purposes of trait gene discovery. The goal will be to identify genetic elements underlying economically significant traits. The candidate will participate in experimental design, implementation and data analysis. Expectations include development of novel experimental design and research strategies by implementation of opportunities from next generation technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:
- MS Degree with 7 years of Agriculture or Plant Science industry experience OR PhD with 2 years of post-doc Agriculture or Plant Science industry/academic experience in the area of Plant Biochemistry, Plant Biology, Plant Genetics or related field
- Proficiency in written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment across multiple disciplines
- Demonstrated experience in devising, planning and executing a cohesive experimental plan
- Experience analyzing large omics data sets
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with corn, soybean or rice genetics
- Background in plant biochemistry and seed traits
- Demonstrated examples of innovative thinking and implementation
- Demonstrated experience leading a team
- Background in system biology integrated data sets
