The Gatekeeper is a member of the North American Development team within the BASF Plant Science organization. Under supervision of the Site Manager for North America this position supports the Development Group in a global program delivering advanced trait technologies in corn, rice, soybeans, sunflowers, and canola.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Act as a liaison with the North America Shipping Manager to communicate and enforce all shipping rules and requirements
- Receive and record all incoming and outgoing biological shipments into a database
- Schedule all biological shipments through preferred carriers and external vendors
- Ensure proper documentation requirements are met for both domestic and international shipments, for both regulated and non-regulated biological material
- Ensure regulated material shipments have proper containment
- Ensure proper chain of custody requirements are enforced for all shipments
- Maintain interim storage of biological materials until chain of custody is complete
- Manage and document the disposal and destruction of regulated and non regulated plant material waste
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- B.S. Degree in a biological science with 3 years work experience which includes 1 year of handling biological materials
- Familiarity with logistics of biological material shipment
- Ability to enter data into databases, proficiency in MS Excel, Internet Explorer, and e-mail
- Evidence of good interpersonal skills and work relationships
- Attention to detail
DESIRED:
- Background in plant science with experience in handling seed.
- Experience with the shipment and receipt of regulated plant materials
- Experience in the seed industry and regulatory compliance activities
- Experience in shipping, inventory management, and tracking of regulated biological materials
- Class A CDL
