Project Operations Leader, Seeds & Traits R&D

Location: Molokai, Hawaii, USA

The Project Operations Leader position in Seeds & Traits R&D will be to provide scientific leadership and technical oversight for the station's Trait Introgression (TI) and Trait Development (TD) activities. In addition, the position must participate in overall station activities to meet company deliverables for Environmental Health & Safety, people development, technical success, and budget.

The primary purpose of this job is to convert tropical and temperate inbreds to commercial traits to contribute to the commercial success of the company. In addition, expertise in event sorting activities will contribute to identification of commercial traits for company use.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Be a leader in building and maintaining a culture of safety at the station.
  • Be the project team leader responsible for the allocation of station breeding resources across all TI and TD activities.
  • Develop people through coaching and staff training in technical and leadership skills.
  • Lead process improvement activities at the site for TI and TD activities.
  • Facilitate the deployment of molecular breeding and analytical tools to maximize performance in station TI and TD activities.
  • Collaborate with our Project Managers and laboratory resources to ensure our project priorities and goals are met.
  • Manage nursery activities to meet budget targets.
  • Collaborate with research stations within DAS to exchange ideas in order to maximize performance of the team.
  • Travel to other facilities as needed.
