Computational Biology
Location: DuPont Knowledge Center, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India The Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CBB) group located at the DuPont Knowledge Center (DKC), Hyderabad, India is currently seeking applications for a highly motivated biologist and computational biologist. The CBB group contributes to research programs in plant biotechnology at the DKC as well as across research centers located in Pioneer Hi-Bred, Johnston, Iowa and at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware.
We are looking for candidates who have expert knowledge and research experience in either of the following areas :
- plant biology, genetics, biochemistry or physiology with strong analytical skills and inclination towards analysis of high-throughput –omics datasets.
- statistics, bioinformatics, computer sciences or any physical sciences with strong analytical and numerical skills. In addition, candidate must have inclination and understanding towards analysis of high-throughput –omics datasets.
The scientist will be primarily responsible for analyzing various types of computational and experimental data and generating hypotheses for experimental validation. The candidate will be part of a diverse team of experimental biologists, computational biologists and software developers. A critical aspect of this position involves working with global teams across multiple locations and will require effective project coordination and communication skills. This is an exciting opportunity for scientists who want to work at the interface of computational and experimental biology and contribute towards scientific discovery.
Responsibilities
- Understand the research questions from experimental biologists and formulate relevant in silico analyses
- Critically analyze a wide variety of experimental and computational data with a view to solving the underlying research questions.
- Generate hypotheses from in silico analyses and evaluate the errors and gaps in the evidences supporting the hypotheses
- Identify and generate datasets for scientific testing and evaluation of algorithms developed within the group
- The computational biologist should additionally have the ability to take forward data sets from their raw format to establishing proof of concept single handedly.
Required Expertise as relevant for the position
Research Scientist, Biologist (Poition ID RES00792)
- PhD in plant biology, genetics, biochemistry or physiology with experience in analyzing diverse -omics datasets and a good publication record.
- ·Good understanding of cellular signaling and/or biochemical pathways in plants.
Computational Biologist (Poition ID RES00788)
- PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, complex systems, computer sciences or any relevant physical or mathematical sciences, with experience in analyzing diverse –omics datasets and a good publication record.
- Good knowledge in R, SAS, Perl or Matlab.
- Hands on experience in parallel computing.
- Good experience and understanding of bioinformatics or genomics applications and databases.
General requirements
- Working synergistically in a collaborative environment.
- Critical thinking and scientific rigor
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
- 2 years of Post-Doctoral or industry experience.
- Course work or prior experience in handling Metabolomics, QTL or Next generation sequencing data.
