Senior Research Associate

Location: Mankato, Minnesota, USA

Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, is currently seeking a Senior Research Associate to support the corn breeding program contributing to 95-103 RM commercial hybrids in Mankato, Minnesota. The individual is also expected to be an active member of the research team to contribute to the success of the research center.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates the research activities of a comprehensive corn breeding program, to ensure accurate and timely processing of breeding materials and information.
  • Training of other employees is expected. Work with the scientist to design, set up and execute experiments; collect, summarize and interpret complex research results including genotypic and phenotypic data; will emphasize on efficient incorporation of molecular breeding technologies by developing molecular breeding strategies.
  • Track and summarize research results and germplasm relevant to the breeding program by developing and managing databases.
  • Research, develop and apply appropriate statistical tools to create and evaluate hybrids based on inbred and hybrid information and market demands.
  • Participate in other research activities at the research center to support the success at the center.
  • Collaborate with other senior research associates and scientist in the organization for inbred and hybrid development.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in plant breeding, plant genetics, crop science, plant pathology, agronomy or related field of biological sciences, and a minimum of 4-6 years of industry related experience required, or equivalent education and experience.
  • PhD in plant breeding and genetics related area and 0-2 years related experience preferred. Strong working knowledge of field crop breeding, molecular marker, application in plant breeding.
  • Work experience in field-based plant breeding, statistical and quantitative genetics analysis, molecular breeding in field crops.
  • Strong data management skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other related software, ability to learn new computational tools.
  • Documented superior interpersonal communication and organization skills; strong self-motivation, ability to work independently, to initiate projects and make decisions.
