Research Associate, Field Traits

Location: College Station, Texas, USA

Ceres is a leading developer of high-yielding energy crops that can be planted as feedstock for biofuel and bioenergy production. Ceres development efforts cover several energy crop species, including Switchgrass, Miscanthus and Sorghum. Ceres is seeking a Research Associate to join our team of College Station-based breeders and plant trait biologists.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as a team member, interacting within Traits Managers and within College Station field research team
  • Take direction in order to execute on Field Traits functions
  • Participate in deployment and day-to-day management of field trials in
  • Be focused and detail-oriented with data collection from field trials
  • Be open to learning field trait biology, including basic agronomy practice
  • Be adaptable to changing situations
  • Communicate frequently and effectively

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in plant biology, plant breeding, genetics, crop science or agronomy. MS considered.
  • Background in plant phenotyping
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Two or more years of relevant experience
  • Field research experience desired
  • Good note taking, written and oral communication
  • Proficient with computers

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS ANDKEY CHALLENGES:

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, produce quality results

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse
  • Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Field, greenhouse, laboratory and office
  • Some domestic travel
  • Potential allergens, pollen, fungal spores and chemical pesticides in the field or greenhouse
  • Research and farm equipment operation such as tractors, planters, pesticide sprayers, and combines will essential.

TRAVEL:

Occasional seasonal travel to off-station testing locations, project meetings, professional conferences or trainings
