Molecular Biologist

Location: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We develop sustainable solutions for superior agricultural productivity, better and healthier nutrition and renewable resources.  Leadership, creativity, teamwork and passion combined with our unique plant biotechnology expertise are the foundation for our success. The Quality Control group plays a vital role in the company's overall Quality System assessing how well materials match product specification and quality standards.
 
The candidate will work in the Quality Control laboratory at BASF Plant Science in a team performing various Molecular Biology techniques. This will include tasks like DNA extractions from plant tissue (manual extractions as well as using robotics), analysis by PCR (conventional as well as real-time PCR) and data interpretation, sequence analysis, plasmid purification and Restriction Digest Analysis. The responsibilities will also include trouble shooting, preparation of raw and analyzed results (reports) for delivery to clients and communication of results in a form suitable to other laboratory personnel. It is also expected of the person in this role to work with IT to improve the quality of the existing tool and implement new tools as well as maintaining and updating laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) for performed tasks.
The QC lab is a fast paced, time-line driven, team based environment that requires researchers to contribute at the individual level and on group-based projects.

This position is not available for relocation assistance.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in Molecular Biology or related field with 7 years molecular biology experience, or MS degree in Molecular Biology or related field with 4 years molecular biology experience. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
  • Extensive hands on experience in preparing tissues and samples for DNA extraction as well as performing extractions from various plant or animal material.
  • Demonstrated skill with all facets of real-time PCR and Taqman assays.
  • Experience using Quality Control, GMP/GLP or ISO practices such as: work management, record keeping (electronic and hard copy), performing experiments according to guidelines and SOPs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate must have strong team working skills,  as well as good communication skills
  • Knowledge or testing of seed material for genetic purity and adventitious presence.
  • Automation and advanced data-handling experience.
