Sales Agronomist (focus on German speaking countries)

Location: Remote with 2+ days/week in Ghent, Belgium

Protealis develops superior seeds and seed technologies for legume crops that are adapted to our local North-European environment. By combining innovation in breeding and nitrogen fixation we create new opportunities for European farmers to help overcome Europe’s protein deficit and provide local sourcing options for the growing number of producers of meat and milk alternatives.

Why we need you

At Protealis we want to provide farmers with the best genetics and growing advice for protein crops. As we intensify and geographically expand our efforts, integrate novel technologies, add additional protein crops to our portfolio and start sales, we are looking for an additional Sales Agronomist (focus on German speaking countries) to help us realize our ambitious growth strategy.

What we need you to do

You contribute to our superior seed variety offering by designing, planning, coordinating, executing and monitoring the different seed testing & production trials together with the team according to the sales strategy. You develop the growing manual for Protealis’ seed varieties with the objective of making the most of the variety’s potential for farmers, multipliers and processors adapted to specific environmental, agronomical, and economical circumstances in the countries of focus in North Europe (zone above Paris).

Externally, you develop your network of relationships with customers, institutes, trialing organizations and farmers, with the objective to have a reliable network for trialing and getting input/feedback on market developments, with a focus on German speaking countries. You provide agronomical/technical support and crop and varietal training to customers and to the sales and production team.

Internally, you are the linking pin between management and teams (breeding, microbiology, production and sales) to present and discuss conclusions of the trials on seed variety and new seed tech products, and to translate market needs, opportunities and new technologies into the breeding and trial programs. In a joint team effort, you provide input for and coordinate execution of seed variety registration and application for plant breeder rights to protect Protealis’ interest. You advise breeding and sales on seed variety portfolio composition based on market insight and customer feedback.

What to expect

  • To be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial team that combines determination with fun.
  • To have a job that has direct impact on the success of the company and the profitability and sustainability of our agriculture.
  • You work flexible but are on-site in Ghent (Belgium) for min. 2 days/week to ensure close team collaboration and support.

What experience are we seeking?

  • You are educated as master or agricultural/bioscience engineer in a relevant field and/or have at least 5 years of sales related experience in field crop farming, plant protection, agronomy and field trials.
  • You have a basic understanding of plant breeding, plant physiology and general crop husbandry. Previous exposure to seed sales and/or product registration is a strong plus.
  • You are proficient in English and speak German. Especially German is considered a strong plus since the focus will be on the German speaking markets.

Who fits our team?

  • You work carefully, orderly and structured and check your work.
  • You are efficient and effective in your approaches and dare to challenge the status-quo.
  • You are flexible: you take into account that weather conditions can sometimes disturb work planning and you have flexibility to travel to trial sites and customers in N-EU.
  • You get your energy from achieving together as a team and feel accountable for the team results as well as your own contributions
  • You communicate clearly, candidly, and respectfully.
  • Purpose in your job matters to you: you see your values reflected in Protealis’ mission.
  • You are customer oriented and get energized by customer satisfaction.
  • You feel great in a fun team and add to that spirit.
  • We value people for who they are and expect that you do too. We embrace diversity regardless of age, gender, belief, origin or orientation.
