Winter Oilseed Rape (WOSR) Breeder (m/f/d)

Location: Terminiers, France

DSV France is a subsidiary of German Deutsche Saatveredelung AG (DSV). DSV is a plant breeding and seed company working with different crop species such as winter oil seed rape (WOSR), cereals, legumes, turf, forage grasses and mixtures.

Our Breeding Team is seeking for a WOSR Breeder (m/f/d) for the French and UK markets.

The position will be located at our Breeding Station in Terminiers, north of Orleans, France.

Under the guidance of the WOSR department leader, you will work within a young and dynamic team where you will be able to fully realise your creativity. The ideal candidate would be expected to have excellent interpersonal skills and to be able to work under minimal supervision, sometimes under time pressure and adverse weather conditions. The candidate will also be required to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Tasks:

The successful candidate will be fully responsible for WOSR variety development for France and the UK markets including the following:

  • Leading the French WOSR breeding team
  • Planning, execution and analysis of breeding trials in France and the UK
  • Preparation of promising candidates for official variety trials
  • Know-how transfer from our central WOSR Breeding Station in Germany
  • Accountability for budget and personnel, including training and development of team members
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with authorities and collaborators in France and abroad
  • Close interaction with product management and maintenance breeding teams
  • Adoption and implementation of novel technologies

Background:

  • An academic degree in plant breeding or a similar discipline
  • Solid knowledge of Plant Breeding
  • General knowledge of statistics, data management, presentation and reporting
  • Experience in the private breeding sector is an asset Skills:
  • Ability to lead and develop a breeding team
  • Analytical mind-set
  • Ability and willingness to travel both locally and sometimes internationally
  • Ability to work productively in a team and individually
  • Strong communication skills
  • Fluency in German, is not necessary, would nevertheless be an advantage
  • You are willing to travel for more than 10% of your working time
  • Proficiency in French and English. German is a plus.
