Lab Manager - Plant Management

The Lab Manager will be a member of and lead the Plant Management research team within the BASF Plant Science organization, responsible for managing this research team and ensuring optimal productivity. Our research and development projects focus on enhancing crop performance, productivity, nutritional value, and overall plant health. The Plant Management team performs critical activities necessary to advance BPSs plant biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effectively as possible. The activities of the Lab Manager will include, transgenic seed production and processing, donor product for crop transformation pipelines, and general plant growth and maintenance in the BPS greenhouses. The Lab Manager is also responsible for leading the scientists within the Plant Management team including performance management, employee development, employee relations and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- A degree in biology, plant science, or related agricultural field, with a minimum of 2 years experience with a PhD degree, 7 years with an MS degree or 10 years with a BS degree
- Experience will include agronomic or horticultural crop growth
- A minimum of 2 years experience managing or overseeing greenhouse operations
- Ability to work with multi disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated supervisory experience with success in working with customers, direct reports, peers and other departments for a minimum of 2 years
PREFERRED:
- Important competencies include strong computer skills, results orientation, decision-making and problem solving skills, and team orientation
- Experience growing and disposing of transgenic crops
- Skills in managing greenhouse and growth chamber facilities, including those required environmental control
