BASF Plant Science (BPS) is seeking to appoint an innovative and highly experienced Global Head of Quality Management for BPS' biotechnology products, who will be based in Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC, U.S.A. The Global Head of Quality Management offers an exciting international environment and an interesting professional and personal development opportunity within the BASF global network. The position will be responsible for leading a team of global Quality Managers and providing quality management expertise to support the responsible management of BPS' products globally throughout the lifecycle from gene discovery in Research, through crop development, commercialization and finally to product discontinuation. The Global Head of Quality Management will report to the Director of Stewardship who is based in the U.S.
Specifically the Global Head of Quality Management for BPS will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and maintain BPS' global Quality Management Program to support the sustainable research, development and commercialization of BPS products. Specifically, this position works with all functions within BPS and its partners to develop and implement quality assurance standards that ensure compliance with government regulations and BASF quality standards and, through audit, ensures a function's compliance with those standards. Implementation of this Quality Management Program is achieved through the leadership of a team of Quality Managers based in US, Asia, South America and Europe
- Identifies resource needs to ensure adequate instruction, training and implementation of the BPS Stewardship Program throughout BPS and throughout the product lifecycle
- Ensure that third party collaborators working with BPS products and technologies are adhering to BPS stewardship requirements through process review, instruction, training and audit
- Drive the principles and procedures of stewardship throughout the BPS organization through participation in project core teams and presentations to the different BPS functions and its partners
- Ensure that the BPS Stewardship Program fulfills the commitment to the "Excellence Through Stewardship" initiative within BPS and through outreach to third party collaborators and licensees
- The position requires travel internationally and domestically, approximately 20%, and other than the English language
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Required
- Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline, such as molecular biology, plant biotechnology, horticulture or agronomy, with 5 years experience in biological, biotechnological or another agricultural related science experience -OR- M.S. or a B.S. degree with 10 years experience in biological, biotechnological or another agricultural related science
- Broad understanding of the plant biotechnology industry including underlying key scientific, regulatory, legal, public policy and technology acceptance issues
- Strong analytical skills to question practices and improve approaches
- Strong intercultural orientation and interest in a multicultural environment
- Demonstrated leadership and project management abilities and be a creative, motivated team player
- Demonstrated experience in handling crisis situations to achieve positive outcomes
- Demonstrated cross-functional communication, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to meet goals and to attain the desired results, often under time pressure and in a fast changing environment
- Previous supervisory experience
Preferred
- Ability to understand, speak, and write in languages in addition to English is an advantage for this position
