Crop Breeding Manager, Tomato

Location: Almeria, Spain

Job description

As a Crop Breeding Manager Tomato you are responsible for the success of the tomato breeding program. You will lead the tomato breeding teams existing of (junior and senior) breeders and technicians. You get excited by leading the operational side of breeding, and you monitor performances closely. 

You work closely together with Crop Breeding Managers and Senior Breeders in the breeding strategy, you oversee the research productions, the screening plan and the routine disease testing process. Therefore, you stay in close contact with our researchers, production – and crop specialists. You play an active role to promote team work in the breeding teams, and you are and stay up to date with new breeding techniques.

You are part of the international crop management team and report to the Crop Research Director.

Job requirements

You are a good facilitator and communicator. Working in this dynamic crop requires good communication with all stakeholders, to keep all on board. You have the ability to inspire, connect and coach your team to meet both daily and strategic goals and to ensure the development and growth of your team.
You are a sharp minded Crop Breeding Manager and know when to step up a gear to stay on top of the dynamics. Thanks to your strong personality, you can make fast decisions and make an impact. You have a creative mind with a strong perseverance in getting things done. You are eager to learn and keep on learning and stay ahead of innovations. You are willing to travel frequently.

In short you:

  • are a strong leader with people management skills;
  • are a great communicator and expert in stakeholder management on various levels;
  • have a Master degree in Plant Sciences;
  • have a track record in plant breeding.
