Functional Genomics Scientist
Location: Chiangmai, Thailand 
Directly reporting to the Group Head for Biotechnology, this role is responsible for driving innovative and advanced bioinformatics and genomic solutions by managing and analyzing large volumes of genetic and genomic data to enable trait research and discovery in various crops.
The incumbent is responsible for research that aims to discover and deliver novel traits and making substantial contributions to the assembly and/or annotation of various crop genomes to improve crop quality and performance by utilizing advanced functional genomics capabilities and cutting edge informatics platforms. He/she will coordinate and conduct research in an independent but highly collaborative manner, with very close interactions with the Breeders.
The role is based in our R&D facility in Chiangmai , Thailand.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute the technical strategy to design improved traits that are aligned with product concept targets from the Breeding department
- Perform investigation of the genetic basis of new and interesting traits including their inter and intra-specific variations , in various crops
- Interpret and analyze results ; prepare recommendations to stakeholders and decision-makers
- Lead projects in collaboration with partner teams across genome editing, breeding and molecular plant pathology to accelerate discovery and effective utilization of new genomic targets associated with key traits
- Identify key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and/or process improvement, while positively contributing to a collaborative, innovative, and design-centric culture
Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience , Skills)
- Master of Science degree in Genomics, Biology, Genetics, Plant Science, Molecular Biology, Evolution, or other relevant scientific field with 5 years of of relevant experience
or Ph.D. degree in Genomics, Biology, Genetics, Plant Science, Molecular Biology, Evolution, or other relevant scientific field with at least 2 years of relevant experience
- Experienced in analysis of large biological datasets, as well as coding experience in, R, Python or similar software and languages;
- Strong understanding of the genomic control of physiological and biochemical pathways in plants and demonstrated experience defining genome/trait associations.
- Experienced with advanced computational and analytical tools in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry;
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals;
- Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships;
- Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities, facilitates solutions;
- Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.
