Limagrain Zaad South Africa (Pty) Ltd, an affiliate of the Limagrain Group, is looking for a dynamic and energetic Maize Line Breeder to be based at our Research and Development site in Bapsfontein.

Main Responsibilities:
The Maize Line Breeder is responsible for managing the maize Line breeding program under his/her responsibility. This includes:

• Implementation of most appropriate breeding tools and methods available
• Realize assessment of lines, visits and scoring of trials and nurseries 
• Organize the selection line production and seed production activities
• Organize the phenotypic evaluation of selection line hybrids
• Analyze all data with appropriate tools and take breeding decisions in agreement with the Head of breeding program
• Participation in the selection of trial networks and advanced hybrid candidates for application, in conjunction with the Hybrid breeder, Head of Research and Product Development
• Manages and leads all staff attached to him/her
• The Maize Breeder will report to the Head of Research South Africa

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

Required diploma/Required knowledge

• MSc/PhD in Plant breeding/Genetics/Agriculture
• South African Drivers licence
• Fluent in English

Expertise/Required experience/Soft Skills

• Leadership and people management experience
• Good understanding of the research, production, processing and commercialization processes in the seed industry
• Solid experience in field crops breeding, by preference with maize
• Knowledge of late temperate maize germplasm 
• Knowledge of the South African maize market and needs 
• Strong IT Skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point etc.) 
• Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving
• Good communication skills (written & oral), capacity to convince and motivate people
• Capacity to work on various topics, under pressure and in a diverse and multicultural environment
• Organization and planning
• Strong strategic and analytical skills
• Open minded, positive attitude and capacity to lead change
• Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment
• Basic financial knowledge
