Lab Technician
Location: Davis, California, USA 
Department: Cell Biology Services
Rate: $16.00/ hour
POSITION SUMMARY
Part time technician position is available immediately in a plant tissue culture production laboratory at a R&D site located at Davis, CA.
Under the direction of the Project Lead, Lab Technician assists in all day to day lab activities, including, but not limited to, processing plant materials, preparing media, employing aseptic technique, capturing data, sanitizing tools and equipment, and maintaining lab cleanliness.
POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and dispense autoclaved/sterile tissue culture media
- Sterilize and initiate explant material into tissue culture from greenhouse or field plants
- Assist in routine transferring of sterile cultures to fresh media and maintain accurate record
- Dissect and process tissues for flow cytometer analysis
- Maintain, calibrate, and clean instrumentation, labware, and common laboratory Areas
- Maintain detailed records as required and requested
REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
Education Requirement(s):
- Bachelor’s degree in fields related to Biotech, Agriculture, Cell Biology, and Plant Sciences is preferred
- Candidates with high school diploma and 1-2 years lab experience or Upper division undergraduate students currently working on a Biotech, Agriculture, Cell Biology, or Plant Sciences degree will be considered
Skill & Competency Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness and capacity to learn and acquire relevant new skill sets
- Ability to follow hygiene protocols
- Ability to sit and work in a sterile laminar flow hood for long periods and performing delicate, repetitive tasks with hands, fingers, and wrists
Preferences:
- 1 – 2 years practical work experience/academic training in a laboratory environment
- Knowledge of sterile culture techniques and plant maintenance
- Greenhouse and field experience
