Role Purpose
- Product Placement Scientists are key technical contributors to testing, selecting, and advancing new vegetable seeds products.
- Be a high impact Market Segment team member with Market Segment Leads, Germplasm Development Scientists (formerly known as Breeding Project Leads), Product Development Specialists, and Regional Portfolio Managers.
- Develop deep knowledge of crops and regional markets, build an industry best network of customer-focused on farm collaborations, and translate customer needs into recommended technical solutions for crop production and consumer satisfaction.
- Manage crop trial activities and outcomes, and drive excellence in on/off site trialing
- Deliver recommendations for advancement of new varieties with high probability of success based on subject matter expertise and high-quality trials, data, analysis, and communication.
- Be an active adopter of, and catalyst for high-throughput phenotyping technologies, tools for rich data capture, robust analysis and decisions, and long-term learning and efficiency gains through data, technologies, and knowledge.
Accountabilities
- Manage on-site and off-site trialing and deliver quality data to support advancement decisions within budget.
- Establish the number of trials and varieties tested to support commercial objectives
- Develop and deliver yearly trial plans according to market segment strategies. Plan and track yearly resources allocations.
- Evaluate trial contracts (price, quality, risks) according to protocols; implement subsequent improvements.
- Organize data collection in the field with Syngenta employees or third-party collaborators
- Organize and lead successful Product Advancement Tours with GDS, PDS, Portfolio Managers and local Sales Representatives to present new product candidates for transfer.
- Support early-stage trialing activities under the responsibility of Germplasm Development Scientists or Trait Development Leads.
- Track and deliver successful pipeline progress toward target product profiles.
- Be a key contributor of transfer decisions at territory levels within assigned crops based on data for variety performance and other technical components.
- Provide data and knowledge input for the Product Marketing Database
- Partner with stakeholder groups for productivity projects
- In collaboration with the commercial organization, establish on-farm collaborations with key customers; create a customer centric culture; and deliver solutions to our customers faster by exchanging data and information
- Use Syngenta tools like (data storage, (data collection, material and inventory tracking) and software for data analysis and visualization.
- Be an owner and advocate for Biosafety, Health, Safety and Environment compliance and ethics, and the quality system requirements according to Syngenta internal standards.
- Contribute to achieving the company sustainability targets.

- • Work within the Syngenta Vegetable Seeds organization; achieve a collaborative, customer-focused team with Germplasm Development, Product Development, and Sales/Marketing teams within a Market Segment and/or geography.
- • Establish a network and core team of growers, and together with them perform high quality trials of vegetable seed varieties.
- • Be an owner and efficient steward of available resources.
- • Good health state to stand hard work conditions (hot, cold, humid).
- • A flexible and agile attitude; thriving in a dynamic environment, quick adaptation to new situations and requests.
- • Open behavior in case of disagreement.
- • Owning and acting with responsibility for the success of Syngenta Seeds
Qualifications
Requirements
- M.S. in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Breeding and Plant Genetics or a related field with relevant crop related work experiences (threshold is 3-5 years dependent upon the scope of previous jobs).
- Relevant knowledge about plant genetics and breeding.
- Experience in plant variety trialing, preferably in vegetable crops
- Experience in working with growers and related companies or functions in the vegetable production or value chain.
- Experience and skill in effective communication, summarizing experimental results, synthesizing results and knowledge to recommendations, and in making public presentations.
- Willingness to travel locally frequently (domestic/abroad)
- Conversational in Spanish
Preferred Requirements
- Profound knowledge of agronomy and growing techniques
- Experience in agricultural technologies and applications for crop production
- Understanding the vegetable market and crop specifications.
- Basic understanding of modeling
- Experience working in international environment is a plus
