You will help shape the future of agriculture by:
- Supporting the overall activities of the site Biological Operations team by leading the logistical organization and execution of on-site crossing blocks and nurseries in field cages, leading the site Stewardship/QMS program, developing and providing expertise in the production of research vegetable seed, and assisting with the overall, functional activities of the station
Accountabilities
- Function as an integral member of the site Biological Operations Team by participating in all in-scope activities, including agronomic activities, maintenance of equipment and facilities, pesticide applications, training, and documentation
- Directly manage and supervise cage productions of research seed (inbred and hybrid), with responsibilities for planning, sowing, growing, pollinating, harvesting, and data collection
- Participate in research and process-improvement projects related to the growing and breeding of vegetable varieties. Collaborate with breeders to meet trialing needs
- Develop and share expertise in seed production, with responsibilities for formal learning, conducting experimental trials, facilitating communication on practices and procedures, and proving training for staff and 3rd party labor
- Incorporate leading capabilities and technologies into daily operations in order to bring the highest quality products to market in an efficient, safe, and environmentally sound manner
- Serve as Site Stewardship Officer, providing appropriate training for site personnel, and working to ensure that all appropriate Stewardship and QMS procedures are followed
- Perform all tasks in a manner compliant with company safety policies
- Coordinate and supervise the activities of 3rd party labor
- Effectively communicate with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities
Qualifications
Requirements
- MS degree in agricultural or plant science preferred, or BS/BA degree with experience in agricultural research or applied agriculture
- Experience with MS Office tools, especially Word and Excel, and other standard office software
- Ability to learn and use proprietary databases (SPIRIT, MINT).
- Must be authorized to work for Syngenta in the United States without work authorization sponsorship
Preferred Requirements
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
