To support that challenge, the Vegetable Operations and Trailing Team is currently seeking an Operations Technician in Woodland, CA.
You will help shape the future of agriculture by:
- Overseeing and participating in seed-production and trialing activities for vegetable breeding programs.
Accountabilities
- Oversee and participate in all aspects of growing vegetable plants in greenhouses, including sowing, transplanting and pruning, watering, fertilizing, scouting for pests and diseases, and applying pesticides.
- Oversee and assist with all aspects of vegetable seed production, including emasculation, pollination, labeling, harvesting, cleaning, and drying.
- Participate in the development, documentation of new procedures and processes.
- Coordinate and supervise the activities of 3rd party labor.
- Effectively communicate (Logistics) with the Breeding Teams to implement crossing blocks and trials.
- Effectively communicate with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects, timelines, and work activities.
- Perform all tasks in a manner compliant with and in support of site HSE policies, including completing all required training courses and attending local safety meetings.
- Perform all tasks in a manner compliant with and in support of site Stewardship and Quality practices.
- Function as a member of the site Biological Operations Team by participating in all in-scope activities, including agronomic activities, maintenance of equipment and facilities, pesticide applications, training, and documentation.
Qualifications
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-3 years of experience in agricultural research or applied agriculture.
- Experience in greenhouse production.
- Flexibility and willingness to work OT as needed to meet demand.
- A demonstrated work ethic that strives for excellence in productivity, accuracy, timeliness, and innovation
- Exceptional communication and Leadership skills
- Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
- Ability and willingness to acquire and maintain a pesticide applicator license.
- Must be authorized to work for Syngenta in the United States without work authorization sponsorship
Preferred Requirements
- Bilingual (Conversational Level) in English and Spanish is highly preferred
- Flexibility and resourcefulness in a fast paced, team-oriented work environment.
- Ability to work both independently and in team situations.
