Position Summary
The primary function of the Tomato Breeder is to develop proprietary commercial tomato varieties for Heinz Ketchup and global markets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop breeding objectives with a cross-functional product team that supports KraftHeinz’s mission;
- Coordinate and manage cooperative breeding efforts with internal and external partners;
- Strive to improve genetic gain and breeding efficiency by implementing effective breeding strategies and tools;
- Manage winter nurseries and greenhouse to accelerate generation advancement;
- Maintain clear and accurate breeding records following company data management guidelines;
- Conduct experimental hybrid evaluations- field and lab data collection and analysis- and propose variety advancements;
- Deliver genetically fixed parent lines to the production department following company guidelines;
- Support PD and dealer variety trials;
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Plant Breeding- Plant Science- Genetics with strong analytical skills; Proving record of breeding experience and achievements- passion in variety development can be used to substitute graduate degree;
- Data- and product-driven mindset combined with curiosity;
- Strong communication- organizational and project management skills;
- Independent and pro-active in initiating continuous improvements of germplasm and varieties;
- A fun colleague- team player and thinker;
- Able to operate effectively in a multi-disciplinary multi-culture environment- applying research into breeding;
- Computer skilled- particularly excel- breeding database software- and statistical software.
