YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Vegetable Research and Development Pathology Intern, are to:
- Work closely with his/her mentor and collaborators to identify and implement the best methodology for robust Quantitave Trait Locus (QTL) prediction leveraging genomics and phenomics data;
- Work closely with his/her mentor to create training datasets across many crops and traits and develop a process to validate the predictions;
- Create a robust and scalable processes to integrate the algorithms and insights into the existing pipeline workflow;
- Work with collaborators to develop and implement clear and impactful data visualizations which enable pipeline coordinators to utilize and operationalize the learnings and prediction;
- Be tasked with exploring cutting edge technologies and how they could be applied within our pipeline to create novel insights and optimal strategies;
- Work with his/her mentor to demonstrate the value of the predictions and analytics described above by applying them to real, valuable decisions within a specific trait;
- Identify data gaps and future experimentations where active acquisition of additional data would enable the expansion of the capabilities developed.

Required Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Master of Science or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Computational Biology, Quantitative Genetics or other Quantitative majors;
- Proficiency in Machine Learning and Statistics algorithms and concepts (Mixed Models, Random Forest, Deep Learning, etc.);
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, SQL with a preference for Python;
- Problem solving ability and experience in analyzing and presenting complex data;
- Organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills;
- Strong business aptitude, the ability to rapidly learn new problem domains and become conversant in the domain with subject matter experts;
- Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, precise and actionable manner;
- Detail and results oriented with the ability to work independently;
- Ability to actively engage with internal partners and external collaborators to align strategies and success measures in analytics;
- Must be available to work 40 hours from June 14th, 2021 through September 3rd, 2021.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Willingness to extend own data science and statistical interests to agriculture and/or experience working with agricultural/biological scientific data;
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP);
- Experience with cutting edge ML algorithms.
