About this Job:
 
Support the activities of the Biological Operations team and vegetable breeding programs by leading the logistical organization and operation of the site field agronomy activities, developing and providing expertise in the management of breeding and marketing field trials, and assisting with the overall, functional activities of the station. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Function as an integral member of the site Biological Operations Team by participating in all in-scope activities, including agronomic activities, maintenance of equipment and facilities, pesticide applications, training, and documentation.
  • Directly manage the field agronomy program with responsibilities for facilities and equipment maintenance, planning, growing, fertilization, and pest control.
  • Participate in research and process-improvement projects.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of Syngenta employees and 3rd party labor.
  • Perform all tasks in a manner compliant with company safety policies, including completing all required training sessions and attending local safety meetings.
  • Effectively communicate with peers and supervisors regarding the status of trials, projects and work activities.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in agronomy, horticulture or other agriculture-related field.
  • Five to ten years of applied experience in farming or management of research field operations.
  • Experience in agricultural research.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:
  • Ability to use MS Office tools, especially Word and Excel, and other standard office software.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be available for unscheduled work based on field conditions and weather (including weekends).
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in a fast paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • A demonstrated work ethic that strives for excellence in productivity, accuracy, timeliness, and innovation.
  • Ability to work both independently and in team situations.
  • Strong communication skills.
