Research Production Manager, UNL Agricultural Research Development Center

Location: Mead, Nebraska, USA

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage 1000 acre production farm and seed conditioning facility at the Agricultural Research and Development Center (ARDC) near Mead, Nebraska.
  • Coordinate sharing of labor and equipment resources with ARDC Farm Operations.
  • Work directly with researchers and ARDC staff, coordinating field research projects on the ARDC.
  • Scout crops and make production recommendations based on research needs and available resources.
  • Responsible for all aspects of seed production and seed processing and storage, ensuring high quality seed production for customers.
  • Supervise two to four agricultural technicians and serve as Husker Genetics acting director in the director's absence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural related field, plus three years experience in identity preserved production including harvesting, planting, conditioning, and distributing; equivalency considered.
  • Experience should also include large scale crop production, crop scouting and supervision.
  • Knowledge of agronomic principles in crop production and seed conditioning, ability to operate seed production equipment and identify mechanical problems/solutions, and ability to teach/train staff and students.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Prefer
    (1) Experience in crop research, seed and grain production cost analysis and budgeting;
    (2) Precision Ag software and equipment experience.

Irregular hours and travel required.
Position requires obtaining CDL, non-commercial Pesticide Applicator's License and Seed Treatment License within 6 months of hire.
Criminal history background check and pre-placement driving record review will be conducted.
