YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Vegetable R&D Discovery Genetics Intern, are to:
- Work on a challenging project which will provide exposure to greenhouse practices, plant growth regulators, genomic and genetic analysis of agronomic traits.
- Conduct experiments to determine the optimal timing, dosage and frequency of GA application to achieve the desired flower phenotype in greenhouse conditions, potentially under the different photoperiods shown to accelerate flowering in spinach.
- Work both independently and in collaboration with other teams and provide thoughtful analysis to their assigned research project. At the conclusion of the internship, the incumbent will present the results of the research project to an audience of peers, scientists and senior management.
- Gain an overview of the different areas of the Vegetable R&D community, in order to foster the understanding and collaboration between functions necessary to perform in advanced capacities.

Required Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a BS, MS, or Ph.D. program, with focus on Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, Genetics, Crop Science, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field
- Detail and results-oriented individual with the ability to work independently and effectively
- Strong motivational, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Must be willing to relocate to San Juan Bautista, CA and work for the summer months during the internship
- Must be returning to school upon completion of internship.
- Experience working in greenhouse environments
- Experience with R and other programming languages
- Exposure to modern concepts of plant physiology and development
- Experience working with vegetable crop and/or dioecious plant species
