Context

Sakata Vegetables Europe is a subsidiary of Sakata Seed Corporation (Japan) and is responsible for the development and expansion of the activities across the EMEA area. With our wide array of vegetable seeds, we want to create a confidence-based relationship with our customers, working to our age-old motto of Quality, Reliability and Service. The Sakata Research Department gather the breeding, trials, laboratories and farm teams working together to create new varieties of vegetables.

Missions

Within the Research department and under the Cucumber breeder responsibility, this position based in Jordan at our research station, will give support in organizing and implementing all activities related to the Cucumber breeding programs. The role of the Breeder Assistant is to:

• • Assist the breeder in the day-to-day operations and activities of breeding programs:
  • Managing seeds inventory and preparing listings, realising international shipment if necessary
  • Preparing seeds, sowing, sampling (for molecular markers, Pathology, etc.), transplanting, following up different types of trials on-site and off-site with growers
  • Evaluating plants and fruits agronomical performances
  • Planning, organizing and supervising crossing from pollination to harvest and seeds cleaning
  • Collecting, compiling, organizing and interpreting information generated from breeding trials o Inputting results and all necessary information in the database
• Coordinate with the farm team to ensure the match between labour needs and level of activity
• Coordinate off-site trials with growers
• Be in charge of specific project management with high autonomy It is also expected that the Breeder Assistant should develop an understanding of the market for cucumber in terms of commercial varieties and grower requirements and contribute ideas to future breeding targets.

The breeding assistant will need to collaborate with pathology, biotechnology, supply chain, marketing and product development teams in Middle East and abroad.

Business travels to different countries must be expected within our EMEA region.

Profile

• We are looking for candidates freshly educated with a degree in applicable science subjects and / or with several years’ relevant experience.
• You are motivated, enthusiastic, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willing to work across a broad range of diverse tasks and environments, you can work autonomously as well as in a team.
• To succeed in this position the candidate must show an appreciation of the accuracy and methodology of this type of work.
• Dexterity and patience to perform delicate tasks are important.
• Professional English and IT skills are necessary to complete all functions.
