Senior Researcher Plant Genetics (PhD)
Hybrid potato breeding is a disruptive technology with major challenges in generative propagation, inbreeding depression, fertility and hybrid vigour. Within Solynta we believe in the power of a strong collaboration between Research and Breeding. It will be your responsibility to create a better understanding of the mechanisms to support our breeders with knowledge and tools that will assist breeding in generating our hybrid products.
As a person you will fit our team if you are sociable and flexible, with strong communication and personal skills. As an experienced researcher we expect you to take a leading role in our research team when it comes to genetics.
YOUR ROLE
- Design, plan and conduct Solynta’s genetic research projects
- Analyse, report and present results to various audiences: the team, company and externally
- Act as the genetics expert to colleagues
- Provide solutions for our product pipeline together with experts in other relevant disciplines
- Coach and support junior colleagues
- Represent Solynta in academic collaboration projects and international platforms
YOUR REQUIREMENTS
- A goal-oriented team worker
- PhD in plant (quantitative) genetics + 10 years post-PhD research experience
- Knowledge of Phytopathology, Breeding, Cell Biology and Bioinformatics
- Fluency in quantitative genetics software tools and the use of large databases; e.g. R, MapQTL, JoinMap
- Strong communication and reporting skills in English, as proven by publication of scientific papers, proposals and presentations
- Capacity to work in multi-disciplinary teams • Proven ability to translate scientific findings into commercial applications
- Having and actively maintaining an international relevant network
