Research Scientist and Project Manager
Location: Ithaca, New York, USA Nature Source Improved Plants (NSIP) is a US based company with divisions in the US and Mexico dedicated to the genetic improvement and production of plants. One division (Genetics Division, Ithaca, NY) provides genetic and breeding services to ag-seed and food companies worldwide (including both field and vegetable crops) through the application of its highly-developed portfolio of genomics based breeding algorithms and methodologies. The other division (In Vitro Division, Tapachula, Mexico) is dedicated to improvement, propagation and sales of key specialty and tropical crops such as banana, agave, coffee, papaya, cacao and tea.
The Ithaca division is recruiting for a Research Scientist and Project Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and managing specific projects, including coordinating activities with outside collaborators worldwide. In addition, the candidate will interact with a team of statisticians, mathematicians, operations research engineers, computer scientists, geneticists and software engineers at NSIP in the development of new methods for improvement of the breeding process. Some travel is required.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in plant or animal breeding, plant genetics, plant biology, crop science or related discipline
- Training or experience in breeding
- Ability to work both independently and on a team
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Responsibilities
- Manage and support specific projects, including coordinating activities with outside collaborators/clients worldwide;
- Work with other NSIP scientists to advance projects, including data analysis, reporting to clients, organization of data and progress reports, etc;
- Collaborate with other NSIP scientists in the development of new methods and algorithms for improvement of the breeding process;
- Prepare and contribute to project documentation, scientific reports, publications, and presentations that clearly convey progress and challenges;
- Attend and participate in research planning meetings with other NSIP employees and other scientists (both in academia and the private sector) related to various NSIP projects
