Main Goal

Position Description Summary:

  • Manages cucurbits breeding team in the region and lead the defined breeding strategies including collaboration with research and operations functions.
  • Coordinates the implementation of programs, through a network of breeding stations and screening sites and with the help of research technologies.
  • Facilitates the usage of global germplasm and technology to speed up product delivery and strengthen product pipeline.
  • Ensures programs delivers uniform inbred lines & basic seeds given to production.
  • In partnership with breeders, defines the breeding methodology and develops a genetic improvement program to create new varieties in line with market needs.
  • Works together with cucurbit breeders and product managers on a regular basis to ensure breeding program alignment with market needs.
  • Remains abreast with scientific and technological developments and monitor external activities and progress.
  • Implements Intellectual property strategy
  • Ensures programs operate in a compliant business manner.

Job description

Essential duties and responsibility

  • Manage administrative and technical aspects of Cucurbit breeding team at different research stations.
  • Defines and set up the breeding objectives of the team and ensure follow up.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of strategy and breeding plan through a network of breeding stations and screening sites.
  • Co-ordinate with research and breeding team to undertake objective phenotyping of genetic material placed in the different targeted markets and analyze results using statistical tools.
  • Works together with the Breeders and Product Manager on a regular basis to ensure update of product profile for all segments and assessment of pipeline strength.
  • Monitor and maximize the use of all resources allocated to the breeding program(s): human, technical & budget.
  • Coordinate germplasm use and suggest approaches on diversification of germplasm pools and use in breeding as per heterotic pools.
  • Coordinate the deployment of proprietary breeding database and harmonization of traits and data collection for uniform phenotyping procedures.
  • Lead Cucurbit breeders and coordinate with operation, research and technology functions and use best practices for the improvement of the program
  • Coordinate with Public sector to maximize the usage of expertise, technology and genetic resources for the species.
  • Lead the resource management and budget strategy for relevant programs.

Interpersonal Skills - Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work across all levels of the organization. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executive management, peers, staff and outside agencies. Must be friendly, courteous and professional.

Flexibility – Ability to work with various department and various projects in parallel.

Communication – Excellent communication skills in a multicultural environment.

Profile:

  • Bachelor/Master in plant breeding & genetics with Molecular breeding knowledge; Ph.D in Plant breeding will be preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in breeding or coordination of breeding programs (Preferred experience in Cucurbits)
  • Fluent in English (Thai or French is a plus)
  • Travel required (40-50%)

Miscellaneous:

  • Reports to: Breeding Director, Asia.
  • Member of the R&D Asia Leadership team
  • Coordinate activities with the Operation and Research team.
  • Supervisory responsibilities: breeders in the country
  • Internal relations: All employees of HM. Clause and its subsidiaries.
  • External relations: Group Limagrain, Public sector institutes.
