Access Plant Technology obtains US patent for “New Locus in Soybean for Resistance to Phytophthora sojae”

ACCESS Plant Technology, Inc., Plymouth, Indiana is pleased to announce the issuance of United States Patent Number 7,381,862 entitled “New Locus in Soybean for Resistance to Phytophthora sojae.”

This new resistance to Phytophthora Root Rot is scientifically known as Rsp8 and commercially known and trademarked as Xpr®.

The Rsp8 dominate gene (Xpr®) trait offers the highest level of broad-based plant protection to the known races of Phytophthora Root Rot. Xpr® handles the variability of different pathotype and intensity levels of Phytophthora root rot disease pressure across a field.

Xpr® soybean varieties should be commercially available to farmers in 2010 or 2011.

Xpr® (Rsp8) was developed and patented by The Ohio State University. ACCESS Plant Technology, Inc. is the exclusive licensee of Xpr® to the seed industry.
