As part of a new initiative to help educate turfgrass students on the breeding process and production of developing bentgrass varieties, Tee-2-Green made its first “College Tour” stop by presenting to the local GCSAA Student Chapter at Washington State University on March 22.

In the presentation, a Tee-2-Green representative discussed various aspects of creeping bentgrass including how breeders develop and test bentgrass varieties; what techniques are used during production, harvesting and cleaning of seed; and the importance of certification standards when selecting bentgrass varieties.

“It was very interesting to learn how breeders find potential varieties and realize the amount of time it takes to bring one variety to market,” said Matt Williams, president of Washington State GCSAA Student Chapter. “After attending the presentation, I have a new appreciation for certification and how Tee-2-Green goes beyond the standards.”

Bill Rose, president of Tee-2-Green added, “The College Tour is our way of helping to educate tomorrow’s turfgrass managers. We’ve been in the creeping bentgrass business for more than 30 years – I’d like to think we have some unique insights to pass along.”

The College Tour is part of Tee-2-Green’s ongoing initiative of reaching out to turfgrass students across the country. At the most recent Golf Industry Show, Tee-2-Green handed out 50 copies of Practical Golf Course Maintenance to turf students who visited their booth.
