New Zealand software company, spin-off of AgResearch, to focus on pastoral sector
October 5, 2004

New Zealand’s largest crown-owned research institute, AgResearch, today announced that it has spun out part of its software development team into a stand-alone software company.

AgResearch’s software team has been responsible for the development and commercialisation of outstanding agricultural industry technologies such as Farmax™ and the Resolution farm mapping software, which provide animal feed optimisation and geographically based farm planning, respectively.

The spun out company, to be called Rezare Systems, will focus on developing software to meet the needs of the wider agricultural market. AgResearch retains ownership of, and will continue to build on, much of the underlying intellectual property.

Dr Phillip Lindsay, AgResearch’s Chief Information Officer, says having an independent software development company focused on the wider market is an exciting prospect.

“In a company such as AgResearch it is often a challenge to focus on the needs of the many diverse pastoral market segments. Rezare Systems will allow this.”

Meanwhile Rezare Systems Manager Andrew Cooke says staff in the newly formed company bring a wealth of experience in applying smart technologies to agricultural business situations.

“We are looking forward to working closely with AgResearch in a strategic partnership to develop new and exciting software which will better meet the needs of the pastoral sector," says Mr Cooke.
