Address by Dr. Jochen Wulff, Chairman of the Board of Management, Bayer CropScience AG

September 3, 2003

continued from page 5

Ladies and gentlemen,
market conditions for the Crop Science industry have changed radically in recent years, while still facing considerable challenges ahead. There will be winners and losers in this industry characterized by intense competition.

We believe we have aligned ourselves with all critical success factors to belong to the winners:

- A broad and balanced product portfolio;
- A strong regional presence in our key regions, countries and crops;
- Leadership in innovation and research;
- Access to the emerging segment of biotechnology;
- A strong presence in highly profitable specialist markets
- and a competitive cost structure and critical mass.

Bayer CropScience will put these strategic elements to use building strong, predictable and mutually beneficial relationships with our global customers.

We are well on track to achieve the goals we have set ourselves: profitable growth, a strong team and being a "Partner for Growth" for our customers.

We will move ahead with full momentum, just like the Bayer CropScience trimaran that you can see on the title page of the press pack. The trimaran carries the Bayer CropScience logo, symbolizing our core values: speed, flexibility, team spirit and cutting edge technology.

We will tackle our forthcoming tasks with the same enthusiasm as the crew of our boat to stay ahead and come out as the winner.

Thank you very much for your attention.
